The FM SatComms solution provides customers with the opportunity to track vehicles using the leading Inmarsat D+ satellite system in areas of poor or non existent GSM coverage. Panic and other critical events can also be sent over the satellite network to ensure communication between office and driver in cases of emergency.
Track the vehicle position in areas where GSM coverage is not available.
Office to Vehicle Communication
The following fixed command type messages are available:
- Obtain the position of the vehicle
- Increase the vehicle’s daily satellite message limit
- Start / stop active tracking. The duration and frequency of tracking is user configurable
Vehicle to Office Communication
Active tracking points and critical events can be sent via satellite communication if there is insufficient GSM coverage.
Active Tracking Points: The frequency of sending of Active Tracking Point is configurable. The minimum frequency currently is every 5 minutes.
Events: Event notifications are sent immediately via the satellite modem whenever a critical event is recorded. Any event, including panic buttons, can be configured as a critical event. The system will first check for GSM coverage before defaulting to satellite communication. The user can configure active tracking points to be sent with the event.
Trip Data Recording
All GPS positions received from the vehicle via Satamatics are tracking points and can be viewed in the Active Messages window. The functions applicable to Satamatics are:
- Request Current Position
- Initiate Tracking
- Stop Tracking
- Increase Daily Satellite Message Limit
Critical Active Events
Event notifications are sent immediately via the satellite modem whenever a critical event is recorded. Any event, including panic buttons, can be configured as a critical event.
The benefits of the FM Satcomms solution is that customers are still able to track the whereabouts of their vehicles and drivers when GSM reception is not available or coverage is poor.
This in turns results in the following benefits:
